How Sonicbids Works With Its Electronic Press Kits

How Sonicbids Works With Its Electronic Press KitsHow Sonicbids Works With Its Electronic Press KitsOn its website, Sonicbids bills itself as an online matchmaker between bands and promoters. The site has a database of thousands of members, both bands, and promoters, and provides an electronic way for musicians to send their music to promoters and pitch for a gig, without having to spend lots of money on postage. Promoters can shop the site for musicians they like when theyre hunting for new artists. The site also maintains a list of available gigs, so bands can see who is looking for artists and throw their hat into the ring when something appealing comes up. The Basics What Online press kit companySonicbidsFounded by Panos PanayFounded in 2000 Electronic Press Kits At Sonicbids, the EPK, or Electronic Press Kit, reigns supreme. An EPK is a digital promo package and is what bands submit when theyre trying to get a gig. An EPK includes Bio of the artistContact infoMusic/video clipsPhotos The EPK can also include a blog, information about the artists usual set list, equipment requirements and a calendar so a promoter can see exactly when a band is free. Music Festival Gatekeeper In additions to helping bands and promoters find each other on an individual basis, in recent years Sonicbids has become the gatekeeper to just about every music trade show and festival around. Artists who want to apply for showcases at these events now often have little choice but to submit their application via Sonicbids many events wont even accept through other means now (something that is not without controversy). Sonicbids Memberships For promoters, Sonicbids memberships are free. For musicians, there is a free basic plan and a pro plan that can either be paid monthly or annually (with a discount for annual payments). The pro plan allows more messages and allows for applications (which the free plan doesnt support). Memberships can be canceled whenever you like but you will not receive partial refunds. Keep in mind that many trade shows charge a fee to apply that is above and beyond your Sonicbids membership fee. The Controversy This last little fact- that musicians have to pay for Sonicbids memberships on top of paying for application fees is what gets people in an uproar. Normally, if you are using Sonicbids for the first time, you can simply pay your application fee and get a trial Sonicbids membership, but once youre in, you often have to pay both. So, who is right? Both sides have a point. After all, why shouldnt a musician have a right to submit their application independently if they choose? However, the outlets that work with Sonicbids receive thousands and thousands of applications streamlining the process makes the screening of the applications much easier. Likewise, until youve done the rush-to-the-post-office-with-a-big-sack-of-promos routine several times, it can be easy to underestimate just how expensive that gets. Postage i s a major cost for indie bands and labels, and Sonicbids monthly membership fee is a drop in the bucket compared to physical postage. One event that didnt do much to help Sonicbids image was a controversy over applications to CMJ. Many bands received an email saying that their applications had been declined, but as Sonicbids offers a feature that shows when a bands song has been listened to, many bands logged into their account to see when their song had been played only to find out that it appeared that it had not been. Some artists charged that CMJ and Sonicbids colluded to collect the maximum number of applications (and application fees) and then simply rejected bands without checking them out. CMJ and Sonicbids both vehemently denied the claim. Sonicbids isnt going anywhere anytime soon, and neither is the controversy over the tafelgeschirr. Ultimately the problem many people have with Sonicbids is not that they offer a bad service but that theyve got such a monopoly on the syst em.

This strategy revolutionized a field. Heres how you can use it

This strategy revolutionized a field. Heres how you can use itThis strategy revolutionized a field. Heres how you can use itWhen Steve Martin first started performing stand-up comedy, there was a proven formula for telling jokes. Each joke came with its own cringeworthy punchline.Heres an exampleHow does NASA organize their company parties? They planet.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreBut Martin wasnt satisfied with the standard formula. It bothered him that the laughter following a punchline was often automatic. Like Pavlovs dogs salivating at the sound of a bell, the audience would instinctively laugh when the punchline was delivered. Whats more, if the punchline didnt produce laughter, the comedian would stand there, embarrassed, knowing his joke had bombed. Punchlines were a lousy way of doing comedy, Martin thought, both for the comedian and the audience.Martin asked himself , What if there were no punchlines? What if I created tension and never released it? Instead of conforming to audience expectations, he decided to violate them. He believed that, without a punchline, the resulting laughter would be stronger. The audience would laugh when they chose to do so, without being triggered by a gimmick.Martin then did what all great scientists do He tested his idea. One night, he went onstage and told the audience that he was going to do the Nose on Microphone routine. He methodically proceeded to place his nose on the microphone, stepped back, and said Thank you very much. There was no punchline, so the audience sat in silence, stunned by Martins departure from conventional comedy. But the laughter arrived when the audience caught up to what Martin had done. Martins goal, in his words, was to leave the audience unable to describe what it was that had made them laugh. The state would be like the helpless state of giddiness experienced by close friends tuned in to each others sense of humor, you had to be there. The initial response to Martins approach was ridicule. One critic, sticking to the stand-up comedians playbook, wrote This so-called comedian should be told that jokes are supposed to have punchlines. Another described Martin as the most serious booking error in the history of Los Angeles. That most serious booking error quickly became the most profitable one. The path Martin followed proved Max Planck right The ridicule was followed by discussion, which was followed by adoption. Audiences and critics eventually caught up, and Martin became a stand-up legend. What in your own world is the comedic punchline- an unnecessary relic of the past clouding your thinking and hampering forward progress? What do you assume youresupposedto do simply because everyone around you is doing it? Can you question that assumption and replace it with something better? We used to assume that a restaurant required tables, an immobile kitchen, and a brick- and-mortar location. 10 resume mistakes to avoid in 2018 - Enhancv

10 resume mistakes to avoid in 2018 - Enhancv10 resume mistakes to avoid in 2018 - The best thing your resume can do is stand out and make an impression. Theres just one caveat, it should be a positive impression. Unfortunately, there are plenty of all-too-common resume mistakes which make HRs and recruiters remember you as that person they dont want to hire.So here are 10 easily avoided mistakes you need to know about before you apply to your next job.1. Cliches and overused wordsIf youre writing your resume on autopilot (and lets face it, lots of us are), its easy to slip into the habit of relying on cliches and passive voice. The problem with this is that at best itll get your resume ignored and at worst itll give the reader a big eye-roll. Needless to say, its bedrngnis how you land an interview. Then theres the related mistake of vague wording. When youre describing accomplishments, you need to be specific So choose your words carefully and listen to Jeffersons wise wordsThe fruc htwein valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do. (Thomas Jefferson)Be creative and attract the readers attention with words and phrases that sizzle and are straight to the point. s new feature Content Analyzer can help you with that.2. Typographical errorsThis may seem obvious but you would be shocked how often these kinds of simple resume mistakes make it to a recruiters desk.Theres simply no excuse for sloppiness, misused words, incorrect spelling, or punctuation overuse on your resume.unterstellung kinds of mistakes will get your resume tossed straight into the reject pile. How do you catch these simple but easily missed resume mistakes? After you finish with your resume, sleep on it and take your mind off it. Then give it a look with fresh eyes. A technique I use sometimes is reading all the content backwards, which forces you to slow down and catch mora mistakes. Then, just to be safe, let a trusted friend look at it. Obviously a spell-checker sh ould factor in as well. Once youve done all this, you can send your resume off with confidence.3. Made-up informationDid you really spend 6 months as an intern in that company? Are you sure you speak 6 languages? Did you increase that Twitter account by 6,000 followers in just a month? If your answer to questions like this is well, basically then you need to reconsider. In short, all the information you provide must be 100% true. Remember that in todays world, recruiters can verify most details within a few clicks and phone calls. In any case, the greatest asset you have in an interview is confidence. Knowing that you werent quite truthful on your resume is a sure-fire way to take that confidence and replace it with guilt and paranoia elend exactly a recipe for success. So stick to the truth and be proud of it.4. Responsibilities VS AccomplishmentsThis is one area where we see resumes are changing in 2019. Just a few years ago this welchesnt a very common practice, but today its absol utely expected that you list accomplishments and not just responsibilities on your resume.Ultimately, its your accomplishments that make you stand out from all the other applicants and its accomplishments that will make you feel proud walking into that interview. Also make sure you quantify these accomplishments whenever possible, specifics always have greater impact.5. Not tailored for the jobBefore crafting a resume, one of yourfirst steps should be reading through the job requirements carefully. Pay close attention to the keywords they use and get the grip of who theyre actually looking for.The second step should be going through their company website, social media profiles, blog, and anywhere else theyre active. Whats their company culture? What kind of people work there? Would you fit in the team? All this information will give you a head start and provide clues for your resume design, content, and overall feeling. Make it specific to the company and the job requirements.Identi fy the common keywords, terminology, and key phrases that routinely pop up in the job descriptions of your target company.(Amanda Augustine, career expert)Ultimately, you want the recruiter to see your resume and get the feeling that youre their ideal candidate. By using the same words they use, reflecting their culture and values, etc. you do just that.6. Irrelevant experienceDont ever submit a resume thats out of date. Your resume should be up to date with relevant information at all times. Consider leaving out that summer job you did 10 years ago. Unless you achieved something significant and relevant to the job position youre applying for, its just a distraction. A rule of thumb I like to use is to look at every piece of information on my resume and ask myself whether it makes the resume mora effective. If it doesnt add any value, I cut it.The experience content of your resume should exponentially progress with you.7. Format inconsistencyEmployers might require your resume to be in a certain format depending on their companys Applicant Tracking System (ATS). However, unless the company has specific instructions, the safest way to send your resume is as a PDF. The main reason being that a PDF doesnt change depending on the computers operating system. If you send a .docx file created in OpenOffice and it gets opened in Microsoft Word, it might look like a real mess. Also, make sure your resume doesnt get out of hand by using a number of different fonts, graphs, and neon colors. Keep it neat, clean and easy to read. Here is an example of a good format8. Paid VS Unpaid work experienceAnother mistake that appears on resumes is the fact that people believe that the only experience that counts is paid experience. But this massively reduces the ways in which you can show off your skills and accomplishments.Think about the volunteering, that old car you restored, a disease you overcame, or how you learned how to sew and make your own clothes. In other words, what mak es you proud and shows your skills? unterstellung dont necessarily have to be connected to your job title. It can be one of the most striking sections on a resume, as long as you back it up with concrete facts, numbers and figures. Plus, experience like this can be a great conversation starter in an interview.9. Afraid to show your personalityPeople are still worried to show their personality in a resume. They think its somewhat childish and unprofessional. They believe that this type of information is supposed to be written in a cover letter. But do employers read cover letters anymore? Its 2018 and resumes have changed.Company Culture, the personality of a company, is being taken more and more seriously as a way to brand a company and keep its employees happy. For employers, one of the ways to create a good company culture is to hire people that are similar or have similar interests. Thats why they need to see more personality revealing sections in your resume. Make their job easie r and present your charming self. is the only resume builder out there offering a big variety of human-centric sections. Try them out, it gotSam a job in Spotify. What kind of stuff are you working on in your free time? I am always inspired by this. It also shows me that you have the passion for your field beyond your nine-to-five. (Ambra Benjamin, engineering recruiter at Facebook)10. Crafting only one resumeForget your one size fits all mindset, because resumes in 2018 need to be tailored for the specific job. A small startup and IBM certainly dont hire the same way, so you shouldnt apply to them the same way. So use the other tips mentioned above to craft your resume for each position youre applying for.Now youre confident, ready to stand out and land that jobCrafting am outstanding resume isnt an easy job. Loves writing, editing and researching the newest ways of doing things. 12 comments on 10 resume mistakes to avoid in 2018 Shane on July 21st, 2017 - 1255am Im not sure I agree with most things on these example resumes here. A picture of yourself? A pie chart about what you do during the day? Links to social media and a quote? Things you do in your free time, diseases you overcame? Nobody needs this information. Yes, it looks different and will be interesting to some people, but Im not so sure anyone would sacrifice the time to sift through all this nonsense to get to the only part they actually want your experience, and even that is in smaller font than every thing else. Using this schablone is a shot in the dark, and not one that Im willing to take. Reply Tatiana Rehmova on July 21st, 2017 - 654am Hi Shane, thanks for the comment Adding the things you listed can actually reveal a lot about the person, their attitude towards tasks, the way they deal with different situations and all that can be translated into how theyll actually act at work, interact with the team and deal with difficult situations. Of course, its completely up to you to choose what kind of information you share on your resume. And it also depends on the position youre applying for, as well the type of company. These are some of our suggestions, things that we as an employer love seeing on resumes, and things that have worked for many of our customers who got hired in great companies. ?? Reply Jeremy Sullivan on July 25th, 2017 - 614pm Hi Tatiana,Back to what people really care about thing can you/ provide case studies or referrals/testimonials with specific job t itles and company names where the above has worked? Id love to believe hiring managers have evolved to this point (having been one), but I have seen zero hard evidence of it. I regularly have ex-coworkers coming to me for resume advice, and I am hesitant to advise them to move to this sort of marketing style resume. Citations, please? Show me the money. Reply Tatiana Rehmova on July 26th, 2017 - 600am Hi Jeremy,Thanks for your comment ?? We have a whole list of candidates who used our resumes and got hired in different companies. The ones that do want to share their success are in this section of our blog Enhanced Lives. And there are many more to come. Id like to emphasize that it very much depends on what kind of company youre applying for, what kind of people work there and what their culture is, thats what can give you a hint would they care about seeing what I like doing in my free time? Or are they a corporate company which only cares about how many years of experience I h ave? So, research is the key. Thanks. I will be sure to share these tips with him. Reply Jimmy on December 11th, 2018 - 825am One should be 100% truthful? Ive never understood the need to quantify truthfulness. So, 90% truthful doesnt cut it? Using language in your CV that you wouldnt normally use and presenting only your strengths and concealing your weaknesses is hardly truthful. Its not painting an accurate picture. Another point that has been overlooked is that a polished (perfect) CV can sometimes work against applicants. It reeks of BS, which some recruiters are sensitive to. Reply kiran sahu on August 17th, 2018 - 429am Hey Great article.. relay good for all the freshers who are starting there corporate life. Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnt Get the Job

Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnt Get the Job Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnt Get the Job Culture clash between you and a company that could potentially hire you is a real concern. What is company cultural fit? At its most basic, cultural fit is the way a workplace functions and how employees behave. For example, a company culture can be laidback, strict, easygoing, or collaborative. When receiving a job rejection, you might wrack your brain as to why you werent selected. Perhaps you didnt have the ideal qualifications. Maybe you didnt have the right education. Or maybe you and the company werent a great cultural fit. The hiring manager might not have felt your personality and the company culture worked well together. But its also possible that you just didnt demonstrate how compatible you and the company could have been. Here well give you advice about how to pinpoint a companys culture, and use that information to your advantage through the hiring process.First, research your dream companys culture. To learn about a companys values, find them on social media and set up news alerts. After that, follow company employees on social media and strike up virtual conversations with them. If you make a strong connection with someone online, set up an informational bewerbungsgesprch with them to learn more about the company. Youll be able to ask questions about culture more freely to a potential peer, rather than a boss.Brief your references on your ideal companys culture so they can speak to how you fit into that culture.Your references are your advocates. New report Women have earned 49 cents to a mans dollar since 2001

New report Women have earned 49 cents to a mans dollar since 2001New report Women have earned 49 cents to a mans dollar since 2001When Betty Friedan wrote The Feminine Mystique in 1963, she likely did not expect complete equality right away if women responded to her call to find meaningful work. But more than 50 years after that revolutionary text, the female workforce she inspired might be surprised and disappointed to learn that the gender pay gap goes even deeper than previously reported and is leise devastating to womens earning potential.A new reportby the Institute for Womens Policy Research found that, for women who stay in the workforce, the pay gap is closer to the commonly cited statistic that women make a little less than 80% of what men do (women who worked all years between 2001 and 2015 made 33% less than men who did the same according to the report). But that gap becomes a chasm when researchers look at women and men who have made some earnings over a 15-year period Be tween 2001 and 2015, women earned 49% of what their male colleagues received during the same timespan. That ratio includes all workers who were out of the workforce for part of the 15 years during the time they were not working, their earnings were set at $0 for the calculations.Much ink has been spilled debating whether the commonly cited measure of the wage gap - that women earn 80 cents for every dollar earned by a man - is an exaggeration due to occupational differences or so-called womens choices, but our analysis finds that we have actually been underestimating the extent of pay inequality in the labor market, IWPR President and report co-author Heidi Hartmann said in a statement. The findings have dramatic implications in context Women are the co-breadwinners for half of Americas families, and yet they can be excluded them from lucrative middle-skill industries and penalized for taking time off of work. Both women and men who took one year off from the workforce saw an averag e annual earnings loss of 39% compared to their gender counterparts who worked full-time throughout the 15-year period. But perhaps because they still bear the brunt of childcare, only 28% of women worked persistently full-time, year-round between 2001 and 2015, the report found. Thats compared to 59% of men.Though the data may seem discouraging (and it should be - at current rates of growth, women wont have equal pay until 2059), even 49 cents on the dollar is an improvement on past figures, and womens average salaries are on the rise. Between 1968 and 1982, women made annual average earnings of $14,379, compared to mens annual average earnings of $51,575. Between 2001 and 2015, womens annual average earnings almost doubled to $28,683, while mens dipped slightly to $50,442.The good news is that, over the course of the nearly 50 years covered in the study, women have seen considerable progress in the labor force by entering the workforce at higher rates and staying in the labor fo rce for longer periods of time, which have led to higher earnings and a narrower wage gap, said report co-author Stephen J. Rose. Not only are more women entering and staying in the workforce, but theyre also more educated There are millions more women attending college than men. And with prominent figures shining a light on the pay gap that affects almost all industries, perhaps it wont take the full projected four decades for women to win equal pay for equal work.
